Set in 1973, in the fictional summer beach town of Unity, Massachusetts, “12-Year Old Ironsides” tells the poignant story of Simon Coltrain and his quest for friendship, love, and the right to be a child a right that his drunken, abusive father seems to have denied him and his little brother, Jimmy. It’s also the story of Randy Scott how he adjusts to life’s unfair battles, and how he saves his bitter enemies in more ways than one.
As Vietnam Veterans were returning from the battlefield, Randy Scott’s childhood battles were just beginning. Frequent and extremely violent childhood battles on a secluded island have plagued Randy ever since he became the target of the Coltrain and Mandelli boys. As the two sides brutally fight for control of the island, and for the treasure it’s rumored to have, Simon and his rival, Randy, are each faced with fighting a bigger battle than they ever imagined one that’s fought within themselves and behind closed doors. Soon they realize that the best treasure they can both find…is each other.
“12 Year Old Ironsides” stars two feuding youngsters who come to realize that the real treasure their battleground island has to offer is far more precious than gold. It’s a story about child abuse, and of one child’s courage to escape its harsh consequences. But most of all it’s a heartwarming story of friendship one that’s cleverly written to bring you back to a simpler time called childhood.
